Building the Next Generation of Strategic Consultants
The consulting industry is undergoing a major global shift. Technical expertise alone is no longer enough to secure consulting opportunities or sustain long-term advisory careers. It is within this evolving landscape that Strathmore Research and Consultancy Centre Ltd(SRCC) continues to position professionals for real-world consulting practice, through the Strategic Consulting Acceleration Programme (SCAP),
The second cohort of SCAP successfully concluded an intensive, practice-based learning experience designed to bridge the gap between technical expertise and structured consulting capability, from 4th to 8th May 2026.
Why Strategic Consulting Matters Today
Organizations increasingly demand consultants who can demonstrate strategic thinking, clear value articulation, and measurable impact. Across industries, many capable professionals face a common challenge: They can do the work, but struggle to package, position, and sell their expertise as consulting services.
As a result:
- Opportunities are lost due to weak proposals
- Pricing is inconsistent and under-structured
- Technical experts fail to transition into advisory roles
- Value is delivered, but not clearly communicated or captured
SCAP was designed to address this exact gap.
From Expert to Strategic Consultant
One of the strongest themes that emerged during SCAP Cohort 2 was the importance of moving beyond technical expertise. Participants explored how successful consultants must combine strategic thinking, communication skills, relationship management, and value positioning to remain competitive in today’s consulting landscape.
As highlighted by one participant, Laureen Achieng, “Many professionals already have the tools, knowledge, and technical capability, but the real differentiator is the ability to craft and communicate a compelling value proposition.”
Experiential Learning Model
Led by Dr William Murithi, the SCAP faculty integrated a real-world consulting simulation into its learning design. Participants engaged in:
- Consulting case studies
- Bidding simulations
- Group-based consulting exercises
- Technical proposal development
- Stakeholder engagement scenarios
- Practical consulting frameworks
The immersive structure allowed participants to experience the realities of consulting engagements while sharpening their ability to develop strategic solutions for clients across sectors. Beyond classroom learning, the programme also created space for peer learning, professional networking, and cross-sector collaboration among emerging and experienced consultants. We celebrate all participants who graduated from our Strategic Consulting Acceleration Programme. We also extend our appreciation to the faculty, industry experts, facilitators, and partners whose insights and experience made SCAP impactful and memorable.
