The Strathmore Research and Consultancy Centre Ltd (SRCC) recently concluded its inaugural Strategic Consulting Accelerator Programme (SCAP), a flagship initiative designed to equip professionals with the practical skills, ethical grounding, and strategic mindset required to thrive in the consulting field. In today’s rapidly shifting labour market, where organisations restructure and new models of work emerge, SCAP positions professionals to adapt, innovate, and lead as confident, future-ready consultants. In his remarks, Dr William Murithi, SCAP’s Faculty Lead, emphasized the programme’s philosophy: “The best way to prepare for the future is to embrace an agile mindset and develop skills or knowledge that can be packaged and resold to others.”
What SCAP Offers
SCAP delivered an intensive and hands-on curriculum for the full consulting lifecycle. Throughout the week, participants explored key pillars of modern consulting, including but not limited to:
- Consulting ethics & professionalism
- Legal frameworks and contracting
- Bidding and contracting
- Proposal writing and technical proposal development
- Project management fundamentals
- Monitoring and evaluation (M&E)
- Stakeholder engagement and power analysis
Every session was practical, engaging, and anchored in lived consulting experiences from facilitators, including Dr William Murithi, Karumba Kinyua, Dr Geoffrey Otieno, Alfred Gathogo, Leone Mawa, Øivind Eriksen-Vik, Antony Moses Odhiambo and Elzeever Odhiambo, all of whom have built sustainable consulting practices across Africa.
Powerful Reflections from SCAP
Among the vibrant participants, Victor Wekesa shared insights that resonated with the whole class. His key takeaways included:
- Define your value proposition and your target market.
- Ensure everything agreed upon is signed off on to avoid scope creep.
- Collaborate generously. Consulting has enough room for all. If you can’t handle a scope because of its enormity, reach out to other firms or colleagues in the industry; the cake is big enough for everyone.
- Ethics wins in the long term. Value your integrity, and guard it at all costs.
- Avoid jargon; true expertise resides in simplicity.
Graduation Ceremony: Celebrating New Consultants
SCAP culminated in a celebratory graduation where participants were awarded certificates recognising their commitment, growth, and new competencies in consulting. We were honoured to have Mr Paul Ochieng, SRCC Board Member, preside over the ceremony. In his closing remarks, Mr Ochieng invoked the wisdom of an African proverb: “If you want to go fast, go alone. If you want to go far, go together.” He reminded us that consulting is a collaborative journey, one where shared insight, teamwork, and community will always take us further than working in isolation. He further affirmed the critical role that Strathmore Research and Consultancy Centre play in shaping the next generation of advisors, strategists, and change-makers.
The SCAP Class of 2025 now steps into the market equipped with practical consulting tools, a strong professional network, and a renewed vision for their future impact.
The Future of SCAP: Join the 2026 Cohort
As SRCC looks ahead to the 2026 cohort, the focus remains clear: building skilled, ethical, and agile consultants who can create value in fast-evolving environments.
